It’s no understatement to say that over the past couple of years, the music scene in Ireland has exploded, with fresh creativity and talent. No one better shows this than singer/songwriter Aimée.
No stranger to the entertainment space, as a teen Aimée created content on YouTube, racking up hundreds of thousands of views and bringing her to the attention of a huge online audience. As she grew and her media changed from desktop to mobile, and on to Instagram, where she continues to create videos and content for thousands of fans.
Aimée, born in Dublin, is a trained dancer and natural vocalist has walked a long road to get to where she is today. Growing up listening to, and being influenced by nineties pop heavyweights such as Christine Aguilera and Britney Spears, Aimée is an artist who sounds completely in control of her creative vision and her sound.
Embracing the early noughties production styles, influenced by the likes of Aguilera and Spears, but coupling this with a love of modern artists such as Ariana Grande, Charlie Puth and Demi Lovato, Aimée began working on her current material in early 2018, after teaming up with Mark McCabe and Ovie for his track ‘Over Me’.
Her debut single “Don’t Bother” is a break-up song like no other, ditching the over-used narratives of other songs, Aimée digs into personal experience to share a true sense of what it’s like.
Speaking about her single ‘Don’t Bother’, Aimée said;
’Don’t Bother’, for me, is the song that every person who has been through the type of break up that I went through, needs. I wrote ’Don’t Bother’ last year with my good friend Richey when I was reminiscing about a relationship that I had been a part of that had fallen apart. In the past, I’ve written lots of songs about breakups but they always sounded quite sad & I was always the victim.
When in reality I never felt like the victim, and I think that’s a narrative that’s been told too many times. What I really wanted was to write a song about a break up that is strong & empowering. Not angry or vengeful, but a definite ‘two fingers-it’s your loss’ vibe. Something that felt real and authentic to my past experiences.
I love ‘Don’t Bother’ so much because I feel like everyone has come across that one person that thinks they can have whoever they want, whenever they want. That’s only in a relationship for what they can get out of it. It’s basically a song to tell that person ‘Don’t bother, I’ll be gone!’ –and take the power back.
