U2 today announce Songs Of Surrender<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0a collection of 40 seminal U2 songs<\/span> from across the band\u2019s catalogue,<\/span> re<\/span>–<\/span>recorded and reimagined for 202<\/span>3<\/span> in sessions spanning the last two years<\/span>, to<\/span> be released in <\/span>full on<\/span> Friday<\/span> 17<\/span>th<\/span> March.<\/span> The first track to be made available<\/span> from this<\/span> brand new<\/span> set<\/span> of <\/span>recordings<\/span> is the anthemic<\/span> \u2018<\/span>Pride (In The Name Of Love<\/span>)<\/span>\u2019<\/span>,<\/span> listen HERE<\/span><\/span>

Songs Of Surrender<\/span> is<\/span> curated and produced by The Edge<\/span> and see<\/span>s<\/span> the band<\/span> revisit <\/span>some of<\/span> the most celebrated songs of their 40+<\/span> year career<\/span>, including \u2018<\/span>With Or<\/span> Without <\/span>You\u2019, \u2018One\u2019, \u2018Beautiful Day\u2019, \u2018Sunday Bloody Sunday\u2019<\/span> and<\/span> \u2018Invisible\u2019<\/span>,<\/span> for a musical <\/span>reimagining resulting in<\/span> a completely new recording of each track<\/span>, to include the <\/span>arrangements and, in some cases, new lyrics.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c<\/span>Music allows you to time travel, and we became curious to <\/span>find out what it would be like to bring our early songs back with us to the present day and <\/span>give them the benefit, or otherwise, of a 21st century reimagining. <\/span><\/em><\/span>What started out as an experiment q<\/span>uickly developed into a personal obsession as so many <\/span>of our songs yielded to a new interpretation. Intimacy replaced post punk urgency. New <\/span>tempos, new keys, and in some cases new chords and new lyrics arrived. A great song, it <\/span>turns out is kind of indest<\/span>ructible. <\/span><\/span>The process of selecting which songs to revisit started with a series of demos. I looked at <\/span>how a song would hang together if all<\/span> but the bare essential elements were taken away. The <\/span>other main aim was to find ways to bring intimacy into the songs, as most of them were <\/span>originally written with live concert performance in mind. <\/span><\/span><\/em>Reviewing these sketch recordings with producer Bob Ez<\/span>rin, it was very easy to see the <\/span>ones that worked straight off the bat and those that needed more work. We all got into the <\/span>sensibility of less is more<\/span><\/em>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

The 40 newly recorded tracks are collected together under each of the four bandmember <\/span>names across f<\/span>our separate \u2018albums\u2019, with<\/span> The Edge<\/span> adding<\/span> \u2013<\/span> \u201cHearing the songs interact, <\/em><\/span>and<\/span> finding the running orders for the four albums was really thrilling; finding the surprising <\/span>segues, getting a chance to DJ. Once we had four distinct albums it was easy to see who <\/span><\/em>would be the figurehead for each one<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
