Today sees the release of\u00a0A Terrible Beauty<\/i><\/b>, the new album from\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span><\/b>, on\u00a0Claddagh Records<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The album arrives with the new single \u2018Boy In The Wild\u2019<\/strong>, which was written by\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u00a0and his long-time collaborator and friend, Wally Page<\/strong>, shortly before Wally\u2019s death in January 2023. The single, which is a genuine and heartfelt song from the perspective of a father to his son, features\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u2019s own son, Andy\u00a0Moore<\/span>,<\/strong> on backing vocals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u00a0says:\u00a0\u201cI first met Wally Page when he sang at The Meeting Place in Dublin in 1977. We struck up a relationship that lasted until his death. Along the way we wrote many songs together. I also covered many of his own songs. Months before his death he sent me most of this song. He wondered was there anything in it (there surely was, dear Waldo). I think this is Wally at his very best. Apart from his writing he was a beautiful soulful singer who exuded warmth, passion and humour when he sang. Wally\u2019s gigs in The Cobblestone and The Five Lamps were legendary. Many of us miss him here in The Black Lagoon.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Boy In The Wild\u2019 is accompanied by an official music video starring Irish actors\u00a0<\/span>Liam Cunningham<\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(3 Body Problem<\/i>,\u00a0Hunger<\/i>,\u00a0The Wind That Shakes The Barley<\/i>,\u00a0Game of Thrones<\/i>) and\u00a0<\/span>Ollie West<\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(The Sparrow<\/i>,\u00a0The Listeners<\/i>). A Terrible Beauty<\/span><\/i>\u00a0is an album that arrives 56 years on from the release of\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u2019s debut album Paddy On The Road, and just months shy of his 80th birthday, so it\u2019s no small thing that The Irish Times has observed what listeners will realise instantly: \u201cFor all the living-legend and national-treasure plaudits, you might think A Terrible Beauty is just another dependable\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u00a0album. In addition to \u2018Boy In The Wild\u2019, this 13 track album includes the previously-released single \u2018Black & Amber\u2019, written by Briany Brannigan of A Lazarus Soul, who also wrote album track \u2018Lemon Sevens\u2019.\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u00a0says of the songwriter:\u00a0\u201cWe went to hear A Lazarus Soul in Whelan\u2019s, Dublin six years ago. I fell beneath the spell of Briany\u2019s lyrics straight away. I made contact saying I\u2019d love to sing a couple of his songs. He gave me the nod – his lines are just up my street.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Elsewhere on\u00a0A<\/i>\u00a0Terrible Beauty,<\/i>\u00a0stories of resilience, memory, and social struggle weave together across its tracks, blending personal reflections with broader societal critiques. From the powerful meditation on conflict and defiance in \u2018Sunflowers\u2019, an ode to Ukraine, it moves through tributes to historic figures and tragic events, such as Ann Lovett and Lyra McKee. Songs like \u2018The Big Marquee\u2019 and \u2018Cumann na Mn\u00e1\u2019 celebrate The Rebel County and the Ireland Women\u2019s Football Team respectively in\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u2019s signature tongue-in-cheek style, while tracks like \u2018Palestine\u2019 and \u2018Snowflakes\u2019 call out injustice and hate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u2019s music resonates powerfully with audiences worldwide, capturing universal experiences with a rare, evocative touch.\u00a0A Terrible Beauty<\/i>\u00a0is a striking showcase of his unique ability to bring shared stories to life.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u2019s first record release with Claddagh Records, the storied Irish record label which signed a global licencing agreement with Universal Music in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

Of signing with Claddagh Records,\u00a0Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u00a0says:<\/span>\u00a0\u201cI was very taken with the Universal approach to two retro albums that came about when they acquired labels that had gone to sleep. When I saw the work they did on the Paddy Kavanagh album, my curiosity peaked. I met the \u201cman from Universal\u201d by chance one day and complimented him on recent releases. He mentioned that he would like to work with me and that Claddagh Records was being revitalised\u2026 and here I am.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Christy<\/span>\u00a0Moore<\/span>\u00a0will play\u00a012 live shows at Vicar Street<\/b>, Dublin throughout November (2nd, 7th, 13th, 20th, 28th) and December (5th, 11th, 18th, 30th) this year, and January (5th, 12th, 20th<\/span>) next year, and a\u00a0Cork Live at the Marquee<\/b>\u00a0date for 28th June 2025 went on sale yesterday.
