Released on July 20th, the sequel to the beloved jukebox musical rom-com has already grossed $282.9 million. It’s hard to gauge whether fans love the sweet story, the slick one-liners, or the ABBA hits that carry it along. Probably a mix of all three.

The soundtrack was produced and arranged by ABBA icon Benny Andersson, who handpicked each song to delight fans old and new. You can purchase the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again soundtrack on vinyl here, or download it here.

The release came 10 years from the week that the original film took box offices by storm.

The star-studded cast sing and dance to songs like “Dancing Queen,” “I Have a Dream,” and “Fernando,” while exploring the backstory of Meryl Streep’s iconic Donna Sheridan. So far, fans and critics alike find that, just like the original film, the sequel is silly and fun in the most refreshingly self-aware way. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it still leaves viewers with a giddy energy that only a film of this nature can do.

2019-11-28
