Who is Lyra? 5 Things you Need to Know
05 April 2019 | By Ciaran Treacy
Corkonian Lyra has been making waves recently in the music scene, with her unique blend of dark electronic pop.
Her creativity comes across in songs, stories and art which all form part of her sound and style.
Heavily influenced growing up by the likes of Kate Bush, Lykke Li, and Bat for Lashes, you can clearly hear this in her music. A mix of vintage combined with more contemporary music makes for a truly different style, which crosses multiple eras, but makes them work together.
Lyra’s first EP ‘W.I.L.D.’ was produced by Rupert Christie, who also worked with the likes of Kate Bush, Coldplay, and Aurora. The EP received critical acclaim and built up over one million streams on Spotify. Lyra also appeared on the 30th Anniversary rework of U2’s ‘The Joshua Tree – New Roots’ alongside Irish heavyweights; Kodaline, Gavin James, U2, and Imelda May which shot to number 1 in the Irish Charts.
Sold Out Shows;
It was thanks to ‘W.I.L.D.’ that there led on a string of sold-out shows across Ireland and London, as well as appearances at festivals such as; The Great Escape, Music Cork, Latitude, and Electric Picnic.
Over the last year and since her first EP release, Lyra has been working with the likes of Phil Cook (Ellie Goulding), Carey Willets (Dermot Kennedy), and Braque (Rag N’ Bone Man, Bastille), honing her sound and her style. Recently she supported Dermot Kennedy on his tour and played alongside James Bay at Live At The Marquee in Cork.
