All-time Greatest Disney Songs

Just last week Disney launched Disney Plus giving us access to a library full of amazing movies stretching all the way back to 1928. This is perfect timing for the ultimate comfort watching binge. Every belle in the country will be streaming Beauty and the Beast in the coming days. To celebrate the launch of this new platform we are taking a look back on the all-time greatest Disney songs.

Aladdin – A Whole New World

Cheeky Aladdin takes princess Jasmine for a magic carpet wide where they explore the world together. This is one of our favourite Disney love songs. We know that many of you can repeat the lyrics verbatim. This ability to capture our imagination through beautiful ballads that makes Disney stand out in their epic productions.

Although we have a soft spot for the original animated version from 1992, having famous pop singer Zayn Malik sing a new version of the song was a clever move and certainly brings all of the beautiful lyrics into focus once again.

Frozen – Let it Go

It seemed as though every young girl between the ages of six to sixteen (a little more if you include us) knew this Disney song line by line after watching Frozen in 2013. Queen Elsa had captured our hearts and we were rooting for her all the way through the story. She is both rebellious and empowering, two things that young girls relate to these days.

This was another award winner for Disney, picking up the Academy Award for Best Original Song. As an iconic power ballad, this song made it into the Billboard charts and captured the hearts of everyone who listened to it. It has become a go-to sing-a-long song around the world.

Jungle Book – Bare Necessities

The bare necessities is something we could all do with adopting right now. These are some of the most iconic lyrics from a Disney movie. If this song doesn’t put you in a good mood, nothing will. It is a generous tribute to life in the jungle and we love the mix of Baloo’s deep voice and the drum base.

“Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities. Forget about your worries and your strife. I mean the bare necessities are mother nature’s recipes that bring the bare necessities to life.”

Pocahontas – Colours of the Wind

With its beautiful orchestral accompaniment and magical animation in the video, it’s easy to fall in love with this Disney hit. The song captures the spirit of Pocahontas singing about the power of nature, the wind, the mountains and the sky. One of the most loved Disney protagonists encourages us to explore and discover the wild side of life through this song. We are delighted that this one went on to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

101 Dalmatians – Cruella De Vil

Now for a song about one of Disney’s queen villains. Cruella De Vil is well known for her famously played by Glenn Close in the 1996 version of the story. This is the perfect comeback song for Roger whose songwriting skills are mocked by Cruella throughout the animation. He cleverly uses his songwriting career to paint a picture of evit Cruella. After kidnapping 99 puppies it’s no wonder so many people choose Cruella as the inspiration for their Halloween costumes. “The world was such a wholesome place until, Cruella, Cruella, De Vil”.

The Little Mermaid – Under the Sea

Sebastian, the straight talking crab, takes the lead with this fun, sing-a-long classic Disney tune. We are treated to a tour of life under the sea. Sebastian showcases the care-free underwater lifestyle, dismissing Ariel’s desire to become human. With a clever mix of instruments and positive Calypso vibes we can’t help but sing-a-long.

“Under the sea, under the sea. Darling it’s better, down where it’s wetter, take it from me”

Enjoy catching up with all of these upbeat Disney songs while remembering some of the most influential characters that we fall in love with over and over again when we watch these movies.
