1 – Who Are BLACKPINK?
BlackPink is comprised of Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé. Four charismatic women who are not only incredible vocalists and dancers, but fashion icons for Millennials and Gen Z the world over. Fans are known affectionately as ‘Blinks’. Part of the global appeal behind the band, is the diversity of the group; Rosé WAS BORN IN New Zealand and raised in Australia, Jennie was born in New Zealand and raised in Korea, Lisa spent most of her upbringing in Thailand, While Jisoo is a Seoul native, born and bred.
2 – International hits
BlackPink’s debut release was ‘Square One’ in 2016. Instantly proving a hit in Korea and around the world. It popped onto the RADAR of Rolling Stone, who called it “a perfect marriage of K-pop and A-town trap.” Their EP release of the same title in June 2018 went straight in at #40 in the Billboard 200, and #1 in the Billboard World Albums Chart.
3 – Kiss and Make Up
The band have recently spotted with Electric Picnic 2018 headliner Dua Lipa, for her song “Kiss and Make Up” and also appearing in the video. To date the track has 164 million streams on Spotify alone.
4 – Record Breakers
As if all of the above wasn’t enough, BlackPink are unstoppable. Their single “Ddu-Du, Ddu-Du” broke the record for highest charting Billboard Hot 100 debut by an all-Female K-Pop act. The video itself gained 36.2million views in its first day online. At time of writing this, it’s standing at 758 million views.
5 – What’s Next?
BlackPink have truly gone international and are headed straight for Coachella in the US, followed by arena tour in the US, EU, Australia and Asia! While each member has also been working on their own individual music. It’s a good time to be a K-Pop fan!
