Madame X

pop

It’s a new era, and a new Madonna. That’s right, the Queen of Pop is back in the headlines once more (did she really ever leave them?) with a brand new album, Madame X.

Madame X is the Madonna’s 14th studio album, and references a nickname that she was given by American dance legend Martha Graham when she was just 19. 41 years later, Madame X takes on a political, fiery tone as it touches on a host of highly-charged issues.

Well accustomed to inventing and reinventing herself, Madonna holds that Madame X as a character is actually the narrator of the album. With each song assuming or revealing a new identity that fights back at a societal ill. In an Instagram teaser, Madonna revealed that:

“Madame X is a secret agent. Traveling around the world. Changing identities. Fighting for freedom. Bringing light to dark places. She is a dancer. A professor. A head of state. A housekeeper. An equestrian. A prisoner. A student. A mother. A child. A teacher. A nun. A singer. A saint. A whore. A spy in the house of love. I am Madame X.”

It’s clear that the 60-year-old isn’t done exploring her many talents. The 13-track album features; anthems, reggae, rap, and dark, Daft Punk-esque electro-orchestral sounds. It also boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators like; Quavo, Maluma, and Diplo to name a few.

Most tracks take a powerful stance against injustice, an antidote to a highly-politicized era. It’s a mixture of protest and art, and there just isn’t anything like Madame X out there, right now.

Of course, novelty isn’t anything new for Madonna. Throughout her decade’s long career, she’s been; a dancer, a singer, a producer, an actress, an entrepreneur, a director, and a humanitarian.

From the pop beginnings to her theatrical pursuits with plenty of controversy and revolution in between, the nonstop reinvention of Madonna is something that most artists can’t help but revere.

After her 61st birthday, Madonna will head out on a Madame X tour, with stops in London, Lisbon, and Paris in early 2020. For now, get your hands on Madame X and take a moment to enjoy the latest iteration of one of the world’s most beloved artists!
