Nathan Evans: from Postman to Wellerman

Up until a couple of weeks ago, the only time you might have seen Nathan Evans would be delivering post in Scotland. He didn’t expect that a couple of weeks later, he would be getting a record deal with the world’s biggest record label, be viral on TikTok, and starting his dream job in music.

Nathan’s cover of The Longest John’s track Wellerman has gone global. The original Shanty comes from the 1860’s when whaling sailors from New Zealand would refer to ‘Wellerman’, a supply ship owned by the Weller Brothers.

With over 7 million views, Nathan’s #seashanty has taken this song into the 21st century. It has dominated TikTok, and fed into Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, the radio, and US Chat shows! Celebrities from Gary Barlow, to Ronan Keating, have been jumping on the trend and adding their own stamps.

The song was most recently remixed by London producers Billen Ted, and 220 Kid, and both versions have been topping the viral and iTunes charts since release. With over 50,000 creations on TikTok to the new remix, the world has well and truly been won over with this incredible take on a classic.

Meanwhile, from his home in Scotland, Nathan has been appearing on networks and chat shows across the world; from BBC Breakfast, to Good Morning America as well as being interviewed by papers around the world!

Closer to home; Irish TikTokers like the Gardiner Brothers, Ronan Keating, and Gary Barlow have been jumping on the trend and putting up their own videos!
