Romantic Songs for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s day is all about celebrating the love between you and your nearest and dearest. When we think of Valentine's day, we think of dinner dates, chocolates, a cosy fire and reminiscing about all of the good times with our partners.

But we understand that this year might be looking a little different after spending nearly twelve months cooped up in isolation with those that we love so dearly. With that in mind, here’s a selection of romantic songs for Valentine’s day which might help to soothe and save the occasion.

  1. Elton John – Your Song
  2. The Cranberries – Dreams
  3. Taylor Swift featuring Shawn Mendes – Lover
  4. Queen – Somebody to Love
  5. Lady Gaga – Shallow
  6. Seal – Kiss from a Rose
  7. U2 – With Or Without You
  8. Sam Smith – Stay With Me
  9. Niall Horan – Nice to Meet Ya
  10. Celeste – Love is Back
  11. Yungblud – Cotton Candy
  12. Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On
  13. The Supremes – Can’t Hurry Love

Elton John – Your Song

“How wonderful life is while you’re in the world” sings Elton John throughout the piano ballad, Your Song. Released in October 1970, Elton has been helping to melt our partners hearts for fifty one years.

The Cranberries – Dreams

The Cranberries released their dreamy pop anthem Dreams back in 1992 and the track has remained a romantic favourite ever since. “So understanding and so kind, you’re everything to me” sings Dolores O’Riordan lovingly. Wise words to remember for some extra brownie points.

Taylor Swift featuring Shawn Mendes – Lover

These two popstar giants collaborated back in 2019 for a stunning rendition of Swift’s single Lover. This heartwarming duet is a match made in heaven and a perfect selection for the day that’s in it.

Queen – Somebody To Love

Starting with some classic Queen vocal harmonies and transcending into a bold rock ballad, Somebody To Love is a romantic rock gem. With a truly epic breakdown, Somebody To Love captured Queen doing what Queen did best – combining theatrical rock with heartfelt and relatable lyrics.

Lady Gaga – Shallow

Shallow was released as the lead single from the soundtrack to the 2018 romantic musical drama film, A Star is Born. A perfectly matched duo of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper came together to perform this modern pop rock ballad with a country twist.

Seal – Kiss From a Rose

Seal released this peak 90’s R&B number back in 1994 and the track was featured on the soundtrack of Batman Forever. If Kiss From a Rose was good enough for Bruce Wayne, then it’s good enough for us this Valentine’s day.

U2 – With or Without You

The hard-hitting With or Without You is an emotional rollercoaster of a record. It’s dramatic, joyous and pulls on the heartstrings all in one. Bono and the boys still have us feeling euphorically emotional thirty four years after it was first released.

Sam Smith – Stay With Me

Stay With Me is a soulful romantic ballad by singer songwriter Sam Smith. The gospel fueled chorus blended perfectly with Smith’s striking vocal results in a modern Valentine’s classic.

Niall Horan – Nice To Meet Ya

The effortlessly cool Nice To Meet Ya, taken from Niall Horan’s 2020 album Heartbreak Weather, is a feel good romantic jam. With an upbeat groove, slick guitars and cheeky lyrics, the track is perfect for a Valentine’s bop.

Celeste – Love Is Back

Having just become the first British female artist to top the UK albums chart with a debut album since 2015, Celeste has much to celebrate. Taken from her debut album Not Your Muse the retro-soul fueled Love Is Back is a stellar Valentine’s selection.

Yungblud – Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy is a pop rock celebration of being able to lose yourself in somebody else. Yungblud promotes romance as the solution to many of life’s problems. We can get behind that!

Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On

Marvin Gaye, the king of smooth, released Let’s Get It On in 1973 and with its laid back groove provided by The Funk Brothers, this one really hits the spot. Let’s Get It On is slick, funky and soulful, making it the perfect for the Valentine’s Day celebrations.

The Supremes – You Can’t Hurry Love

Originally released back in 1966 through the Motown label, You Can’t Hurry Love stands strong up against any romantic ballad that has come after it. This blissful number brings an old school soulful end to our Valentine’s day list.
