Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are Still Topping Charts

If you haven’t seen A Star is Born yet, you’ve probably been goaded by at least one of your friends into considering a trip to the cinema. Between Bradley Cooper’s musical talent and Lady Gaga’s stunning stint as an actress, it’s hard to say which of the A Star is Born duo has crossed further into new territory.

For the last three weeks, the tear-jerker film has been captivating audiences all over the world with over €220 million in box office sales. The soundtrack itself opened atop the Billboard 200 and hasn’t really waned in popularity. It’s not hard to figure why.

It’s Lady Gaga’s fourth time topping the charts with an album – The Fame in 2008, Born This Way in 2011, and Artpop in 2013 all became instant hits as well. Country star Lukas Nelson, DJ White Shadow, Jason Isbell, Mark Ronson, Diane Warren, Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, and many others contributed to the 34-track album. Well loved songs like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “La Vie en Rose” feature beautifully, but the real standouts are the original tracks, most of which were written and produced by Gaga herself.

In the end of September, “Shallow” was released as the soundtrack’s first single. Cooper’s performance is excellent, bringing forward a sort of country, unplugged sound to the fore, but it’s Gaga who steals the show. Her pop star, theatre geek roots shine brightly as she explodes into an absolute powerhouse. It’s a balladic, show-stopping opus that will be studied by future generations.

A Star is Born is still riding steadily at the top of Billboard 200, ahead of Future & Juice WRLD and Greta Van Fleet.  You can catch the movie in cinemas or download the soundtrack here.
